Event Highlights

Discover some of the memorable highlights from this year’s ALIA meeting.

Political divisions undermining global solutions

Steve Puckett, OBE, and co-founder of the Asian Lubricants Industry Association (ALIA) provided the keynote address at the ALIA Annual Meeting. During his speech, the chairman of TRI-ZEN International, outlined unprecedented threats facing the Asian lubricant industry. While the scale of these challenges is growing, political divisions continue to undermine global solutions, says Puckett.

68% of emissions have a clear or evolving way to decarbonise

No country is currently on track to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, says Are Kasperson, associate partner at management consulting firm, Bain & Company.  Most are inconsistent with meeting their commitments to 1.5°C and net zero, and are tracking at 3°C or higher, he says.

VSI stresses the need for harmonisation of carbon footprint calculations

Carbon counting is the first step in the energy transition. It plays a key role in giving the general public confidence about the sustainability of the lubricants industry. However, without comparable carbon footprints, there is no level playing field. In the past, there has been no clear methodology in place and therefore results couldn’t be compared.
